One of the reasons for the on growing popularity of the Designer Dog is the uniqueness it offers.  As the name Designer Dog implies, two Purebred Dogs are bred by design to genetically produce a variety of outcomes that are virtually unlimited.  Traits of the Designer Dog can be related to size, coat, color, temperament, as well as promoting good genetic health.

A Designer Dog that originates from cross breeding one of the parents with a Poodle, are considered by most people to be a hypoallergenic dog.

As a group, Designer Dogs will inherently have good genetic health due to cross breeding, and you can expect a life span of 11-16 years.

The Pomeranian is a very popular puppy that many families like to have as their family pet.  In Germany prior to coming to the United States, the Pomeranian was popular as a family pet also.

Of the smaller puppies we offer, The Pomeranian has always been one of the favorites since we opened our store in 1999.  They are in the top ten most popular Pure Breed Puppies we sell, being the 6^th best selling Pure Breed Puppy at Utica Pet Supply LLC www.uticapet.com.

The Pomeranian ranges from 3-7 pounds, with a height up to 11 inches.  As a Toy Breed Dog the Pomeranian is the smallest member of the spitz family.

The coat on the Pomeranian is considered to be a double coat, the undercoat being softer than the outercoat.

Another reason the Pomeranian is so popular is the unending variety of colors they come in.  While originally the Pomeranian was white in color, popular colors now include black, brown, chocolate, orange, cream, orange sable, wolf sable, blue, and particolor.

The Pomeranian is known for having a good energy level and is very playful.  Other good quality the Pomeranian offers is being friendly toward other pets.

Within the family of Toy Designer Dogs available today, Malt-A-Tzus are one of the most popular.

The name of this popular Toy Designer Dog tells us what the parents are, a Maltese bred to a Shih Tzu.

With their affectionate personality and overall cuteness, Malt-A-Tzus have been quickly growing in popularity at our store since 2008.  We believe one reason is for a Toy Designer Dog they are slightly bigger in size than their close relatives being Malt-A-Poos & the Morky.  Another reason is color; Malti Tzus will have lighter colors than Morkies, and Malt-A-Tzus offer more of a variety of colors than Malt-A-Poos.

One of the desirable benefits of Malt-A-Tzus is their luxurious non-shedding coat, which comes in a variety of colors.

While the Maltese and the Shih Tzu have their own unique set of characteristics, breeding them (by design) to produce Malt-A-Tzus truly combines the best characteristics of each breed making Malt-A-Tzus a very desirable dog.

The Maltese weighs 7 pounds or less, with a height of 9-10”, and the Shih Tzu weighs 9-16 pounds, with a height of 8-11”, so Malt-A-Tzus will be a small Toy Designer Dog.  You should expect true Malt-A-Tzus to weigh 8-12 pounds with a height of 8-11”.  Some Malt-A-Tzus can be slightly smaller or bigger and that would be fine.

In the Toy Group of Designer Dogs available today, The Pekeapoo is one of the more popular.

The name of this more popular Designer Dog tells us what the parents are, a Pekingese bred to a Toy Poodle.

Since Roxanne and I opened the store in 1999, the Pekeapoo has grown slowly in popularity but since 2008 has become one of our “Top 10” Designer Dogs.

The Pekeapoo is the 9^th best selling Designer Dog at our store, Utica Pet Supply LLC www.uticapet.com.

As with most Designer Dogs that originate from Poodle cross breeding most people consider the Pekeapoo to be a hypoallergenic dog.

While Pekingese have their own set of traits, breeding them to the Toy Poodle truly gives us a lot of positive traits in the offspring, the Pekeapoo.

The Pekingese weighs 14 pounds or less with a height of 6-9”, and the Toy Poodle weighs 4-8 pounds with a height of 10” or less, so the Pekeapoo will be a small Toy Designer Dog.  You should expect a true Pekeapoo to weigh approximately 9-11 pounds with a height of 6-10”.  As with all Designer Dogs weights and heights can vary a little from the expected.

We like to offer the Pekeapoo to families with children because they are moderately energetic, they are playful, and affectionate.  The Pekeapoo is known for being very friendly toward other pets and moderately friendly toward strangers.  They have a low requirement for exercise so a play session daily will be adequate.

Another popular dog in the family of Toy Designer Dogs is the Pom-A-Poo.  The name of this popular Designer Dog tells us what the parents are, a Pomeranian bred to a Toy Poodle.

We initially offered this Designer Dog at our store in 1999, and it sells a little better than the Pomeranian, most likely because the Pom-A-Poo has a non-shedding coat.

The Toy Poodle is popular for having a non-shedding coat that most refer to as hypoallergenic, so breeding it to the Pomeranian produces a non-shedding coat.  Most refer to the Pom-A-Poo as a dog that has a hypoallergenic coat.

The Pom-A-Poo has a lot of desirable traits that make it a very good dog to own.

The Pomeranian is under 7 pounds with a height of 8-11”, while the Toy Poodle is 4-8 pounds with a height less than 10”.  You should expect a true Pom-A-Poo to weigh 5.5-7.5 pounds with a height of up to 11”.  Occasionally, a Pom-A-Poo will weigh more than 7.5 pounds.
